The Family Check-In feature in ChurchTrac is compatible with most Brother QL series printers. ChurchTrac officially offers support for the QL-810W and QL-820NWB printers.

Label Printer Setup

Adding a device such as a label printer to your local network may be blocked by your church's network settings. It is always best to check with your church's technology team before attempting to add a device or download drivers to a church computer. This process may require someone with network experience who knows how to reset a router or add a device to the network.

Label Printer Test

Once you have downloaded the drivers and connected your printer to your device, we recommend testing the printer connection.

The best way to do this is to create an attendance event in your account and check someone in for attendance. You can delete the event later if you need to keep your attendance records accurate.

Troubleshooting Checklist

If you are experiencing connectivity issues, follow these steps to troubleshoot your label printer:

  1. Distance and Interference: Ensure the printer is within a reasonable distance of your Wi-Fi router and away from potential interference sources like microwaves or cordless phones.
  2. Signal Strength: If the printer is too far from the router, try moving it closer or using a Wi-Fi extender.
  3. Router Restart: Unplug your router and modem, wait a few seconds, and plug them back in to refresh the connection.
  4. Printer Restart: Turn off your Brother printer and then turn it back on.
  5. Check the Network Name (SSID) and Password: Double-check that you have entered the correct SSID and password.

Label printers can utilize a variety of different labels, however, there are specific ones that work the best for Check-in practices. See below for the different sizes that work well with the check-in process:

  • 2.4" x 3.9" Brother Name Badge Label
  • 2.4" Brother Continuous Feed Label

Pro Tips

Android and Chromebook

Android and Chromebook devices are NOT compatible with Check-In.

There are other label printers, but the Brother QL printers are the ones we have found to work best with the application. They can be purchased directly from Amazon for the best deal.
